Taking Control of your Closet
Welcome to my new blog! I’m very excited to be sharing some very special insights with you that will help you style yourself. As a style coach, I use a unique method that helps my clients organize their closets in a smart way mainly revolving around choosing a specific color palette, plus using organization tips, body type considerations, fashion personality, sustainability, and much more to have a strong image. Over time, I have accumulated much knowledge and verified it time and time again, which I will share with you through this blog! Hope it will be helpful to you.
I will start at the beginning: your current closet.
What is a Closet Edit? A Closet Edit is literally going into your closet to edit, that is to revise or correct, what is currently going on with your clothes. Our closet as a space tends to accumulate many things over the years that may or may not be worth the space anymore. This happens for many reasons: clothes might not fit anymore, or they may have gone out of fashion (although that isn’t necessarily a bad thing, will talk more about this in further posts), or maybe (and most importantly!) they don’t reflect who you are anymore. Sometimes, especially if we have a big space which tends to become a sort of trap, clothing just degrades by sitting in a dark corner, they develop holes and other nasty things. By revisiting and reorganizing, that is editing, we have an overview of what’s happening, what is needed, and what exceeds your living situation.
If seems as if this is something we do on special occasions. Sometimes because of Spring cleaning or because we are forced to (moving apartments/houses or cities/countries). It is often a tedious activity for most people (I personally love organizing!). Whenever we dig a little deeper in the closet, because we might be preparing for a trip or to dress for a special occasion, we realize “we need to reorganize” or “we have a full closet with nothing to wear”, but we put it off over and over. Truth is that any day is a good day to organize your closet as is true for any other space. Also, it is especially important when you are going through a big life change. Is there something changing in your life? Change your closet to go with it. Do you want a change to happen in your life? Start by editing your closet. We should assess and reassess this as often as possible.
Finding the motivation to organize your closet or any aspect of your home is the first thing you want to have. As mentioned, it can be any sort of big change, but the main point is knowing that having things in order in the clothing department allows you to focus on other parts of your life. Give yourself the luxury of taking the time to organize life around you, starting with your clothes. Things will fall right into place (both material and spiritual) once you designate a healthy space for your clothes to flourish.
When you do a Closet Edit and you decide to have a capsule wardrobe, it can be a little daunting because it's counterintuitive in our culture, when abundance is directly something material. The truth is having just the right amount of clothes you will truly enjoy more often is a mindful decision that will declutter your headspace and your physical space at home.
In my method, the Closet Edit is the 1st step towards having a new wardrobe and a new you. To start, we first have to clean the slate! We need to check your wardrobe to assess what works and what doesn’t. I’ll send you some prep work, we’ll meet via Zoom (in your closet) where you’ll get a relaxed, in-depth wardrobe consultation. I will take a look at what you’ve been wearing, and you can try things on so I can see how everything fits. I’ll help you determine what can be kept, altered, or donated (by sending you a list of your local places to do that). This is the 1st step of the coaching for you to learn about you and about styling the clothes you already have. 1st we shop in your closet!
